Brighter Detroit Community Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. It is a multi-purpose recreational and resource center designed to provide safe, nurturing and inspirational alternatives in the community for children and the adults who support them. Located in a building with a rich history in the Gratiot Woods neighborhood, Brighter Detroit Community Center is centered on making improvement in the lives of community members by providing effective and evidence-based programs focused on health and wellness, academic support and lifelong learning, and community engagement.
Brighter Detroit aims to ignite on Detroit’s east side a passionate pursuit of new opportunities that will create empowerment where hopelessness currently exists. Brighter Detroit aspires to bring a contemporary approach to similar needs in the community.

Terry Payne, Sr. has spent the past 25 years building successful businesses that contribute to the Detroit economy. He is a lifelong Detroiter who likewise has spent decades investing in youth through coaching, providing jobs and raising his own family in the city. Payne founded Brighter Detroit in 2014 with a heart for creating a brighter Detroit one community at a time. He is committed to re-energizing east side Detroit neighborhoods through the redevelopment of the former 4-H Club on McClellan Avenue into a vibrant community center for Detroit youth and families.
